Actual Pleasure

I know that some of you are entirely convinced that all I do aboard Mabrouka is repair projects. Well, that’s not altogether true. I do fill quite a bit of the time between projects moping about all my repair projects. The rest, truth be told, is spent doing little to nothing at all. It’s a highly refined skill to be practiced primarily by retired sailors stranded in isolated tropical island archipelagos

Mabrouka’s condition has indeed kept me from enjoying her as much as I should. That weighs on me in sneaky ways until I see that I actually am all mopey. In late April this condition stirred me enough that I decided to do something about it. Leveraging Mabrouka’s presently somewhat limited capabilities, I motivated myself enough to spend some time at a nearby anchorage. Port Maurelle is a very accessible bay less than two hours motor away on Kapa Island. There are a couple of mooring buoys, but no services at all. There’s a nice, sandy crescent beach that rims one side of the bay and, ashore, a brief, leafy walk through the forest takes you to the island town of Vakataumai.

So this transit to and from Port Maurelle added a few hours to the few on my new engine. She purred like a kitten. I didn’t do much there, just sat around playing with my new drone and studiously not moping. As a matter of fact, I resurrected my tradition of celebrating an anchorage arrival with an “anchor down” beer. Aside from those little distractions, I basically lived the same life I usually live at my buoy on Neiafu Bay, spending a couple of days before returning.

Here is a piece of fruit from my little foray abroad for you to reap. Turn up your volume to have a chance to hear all the little birdies.

  1. So pleasant to view and listen to your recent post.

Wonderful to see MABROUKA in a beautiful setting.

  2. Roy,

I commented, but due to my typical user shortcomings, I am not sure it got through, so I will sort of repeat what I said in an email reply. To further explain, when I hit send after writing a comment, it required me to sign in and that required knowing my pword, and that required changing it, etc. But it is not clear that my comments went to you or just vanished!

So, what I said was that I appreciated your video very much and it was nice to see MABROUKA in such a pretty setting. I also said that you are doing a service by providing such lovely pictures, so keep it up so folks like me can vicariously enjoy your experiences.

Are you going to Webb this weekend? I heard from Rich that you were. Any plans afterwards?

    Stay well.

    • Dave! Thanks for commenting, …as a matter of fact, for both of your comments. They did both come through. I’m not sure how you’d know that unless and until I approve the comments, but I’ve done that now. Keep it going and I’ll try to keep publishing.

I don’t think your “user shortcomings” are responsible for the confusion re your comment. Others have said that the interface is problematic.

  3. Re Commenting in the blog vice FB

I recently started using an RSS reader so I wondered how to do that to your blog. I DDG’d it and it’s easy!
i simply added a new feed in my new RSS reader (netnewswire app) using your web url with a special code word appended:

    svmabrouka.com/feed/

now I know when there’s a new postand can go right to it!

    cherrs!

  4. commenting here is somewhat flaky! Often my keyboard disappears and I can’t get it back so I just have to close out the comment and start a new one.

luckily, I opted to have the website remember my name for commenting so I never have to re-enter it.

    • Thanks for commenting, Phil. I’ll try to keep up the good work. Especially thanks for the feed back on the commenting feature, although I don’t know how I might improve it. The comment I’ve had most about commenting so far is that people aren’t sure if their comments are getting to me. I’m going back now to be sure I’ve replied to everyone so they know their input has been received.
